AppraiseItNow is an American tech-enabled appraisal company headquartered in New York City.[2] It prepares USPAP-compliant appraisals of personal property, fine art, machinery and equipment, vehicles, boats, inventory and closely held businesses for clients in all 50 states.[1] Most of its appraisals are completed remotely from photographs and documents, and it also performs in-person appraisals when an inspection is required.[2][3] The company was founded in October 2021. Joe Kattan, who became involved with the business in 2022, acquired full ownership in November 2024 and is its owner and chief executive officer.[4]
History
AppraiseItNow was founded in October 2021. According to the company, it was founded to address three common problems in ordering a professional appraisal: finding an appraiser who specializes in the asset, getting a fee in writing before work starts, and knowing when the report will be delivered.[1]
Joe Kattan became involved with AppraiseItNow as a co-owner in 2022. After graduating from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business with a finance degree in 2023, he worked as a consultant at Bain & Company, and in November 2024 he acquired full ownership of the company.[4] Under Kattan, the company applies automation and artificial intelligence to modernize the appraisal process.[4] According to the company, it has since grown several times over and expanded the assets it appraises to include fine art, complex machinery and equipment, and business interests.[1]
Business model
AppraiseItNow combines an online ordering and fulfillment process with credentialed appraisers who work both remotely and in person.[3] Clients describe the asset and the purpose of the appraisal online, and the company quotes a fixed fee before any work begins.[5] Most appraisals are completed remotely from photographs and documents; when an engagement requires an inspection, an appraiser visits the asset in person.[2]
The company's appraisers specialize by asset class rather than by geography, which allows it to serve clients in every state with the same specialists.[1] AppraiseItNow does not bill hourly and positions its fixed-fee pricing as highly competitive.[5] Its reports are written for the parties that rely on them, including the IRS, courts, insurers and lenders.[6]
